Arsenal seeks miracle against Monaco in Champions League
Arsenal train at their London Colney facility north of London on Monday
(16th March), ahead of their UEFA Champions League last 16 second leg
tie in Monaco. For Arsene Wenger and his Arsenal squad, the task ahead is straightforward at least.
Arsenal have to overturn a 3-1 deficit from the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie with Monaco and do it at the home of their opponents, the Stade Loius II.
'The Gunners' have been in good form domestically of late - since the first leg defeat on 25th February, Wenger's men have won four games out out four, including a 2-1 FA Cup win at Manchester United.
And since the New Year, they have won 12 out of 15, most recently putting three past West Ham United on Saturday in the Premier League.
Striker Olivier Giroud - who was heavily criticised for a series of wasted opportunities against Monaco - has found his scoring touch again and with attacking players of the calibre of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey, Arsenal do possess the resources to score goals against Monaco on Tuesday.
However, Monaco have one of the best defensive records in Europe, with only 20 goals conceded in 28 games so far in the French league.
In the Champions League, the record is even more impressive - in seven games, opponents have found the net just twice.
'Les Rouges et Blancs' (the 'Red-and-Whites') warmed up for the showdown with Arsenal by beating Bastia in Ligue 1 3-0 at the weekend, their 19-year-old forward Anthony Martial netting twice.
