Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri said after the match that his side's lead was a narrow one and they are by no means the favourites going into the second leg.

"I think that we have to produce a masterpiece in Madrid in order to get to the final," he said. "We have set a platform for the future with these players, they played with great personality, with a competitive spirit and good technique."

Allegri's opposite number, Carlo Ancelotti, said that he was not unduly worried about the result becuse there is still a second leg to play at the Bernabeu in Madrid.

"I'm worried just as much as is necessary," he siad. "We played a match, we tried to win it, we planned to win it but we didn't. The result is not good but is not so bad because in order to get to the final it is necessary to play again at the Bernabeu."

Real players rallied round teammate Dani Carvajal after the match.

Carvajal gave away the penalty from which Carlos Teves scored to put Juventus back in front at 2-1.

"I believe that we're all upset because we've lost," Marcelo said. "We have a lot of confidence in Dani (Carvajal). He's a great player and in the return match we are going to do better."
