6 reasons why Chelsea,Man U and Arsenal wants to sign Pedro
The winger has been linked with Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal - but who is he, and why do they all want him so much? Who is Pedro and why does everyone want to sign him?
If the rumours are to be believed, Manchester United, Chelsea,
Liverpool, Arsenal and just about anyone who has ever owned a football
club are interested in buying Barcelona's Pedro.
Now, of course, all the rumours are not always to be believed, but in
terms of sheers numbers Pedro is streaking to the top of the transfer
target pile.
So why does everyone (allegedly) want to sign him?
1) He plays for Barcelona
Even their average players are better than most teams' good ones and Pedro is exactly that. He may not be outstanding when you put him alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar, but line him up next to Christian Benteke and Daniel Sturridge and he starts to look a bit different.
2) And he's not just a benchwarmer
He averages about 50 apps for Barcelona per season in all competitions, but many of them are as a sub. He usually scores at least ten goals, too.3) He's a wide forward who can also play through the middle
Versatile forwards are very much in demand, and it's thought Louis van Gaal, in particular, is keen to strengthen. He's hinted at a mystery forward and said they won't necessarily be an out-and-out striker. Pedro could be the man.4) Barca don't actually want to lose him
Pedro isn't a player the Catalans are actively trying to offload for playing badly - on the contrary. Luis Enrique would bee keen to keep him at the club, but understands there will be little he can do to keep him if the player's £22m release clause is met.5) He wants first team football
Pedro is keen to step out of the shadow of his superstar teammates and become a big name himself, much like Alexis Sanchez did when he moved to Arsenal. A good English team that can give him regular starts in the Premier League and Champions League will be confident of reaping the rewards of that hunger for success.6) He's a proven winner
Granted, he obviously plays in an exceptional team but nonetheless, Pedro's trophy cabinet is absolutely heaving. He played a small part in Barca's legendary treble-winning team of 2008/09 and has gone from strength to strength since. His haul includes five La Ligas, three Copa del Reys and three Champions Leagues. The 'winning habit' managers love to talk about is clearly there in abundance.7) He can deliver and adapt to premier League style of play
