Maribor Held Super Chelsea to a 1 -1 Draw

Chelsea extended their led at the top of Group H in the UEFA Champions League to three points after a 1-1 draw at Maribor on Wednesday (5th November).

Jose Mourinho
Second-placed Schalke lost 4-2 at Sporting Lisbon in the groups other game.
Maribor took the lead in the 50th minute through Agim Ibraimi.

Nemanja Matic equalised after 73 minutes and Chelsea pushed for a winner after that, only to be denied on several occasions by the home 'keeper Jasmin Handanovic.

Eden Hazard had an 85th minute penalty saved by Handanovic, as Maribor hung on for a 1-1 draw.

Chelsea Boss Jose Mourinho said his boys played very slowly and Maribor were able to control the game but Chelsea scored two goals but only one goal was recorded for the Blues why one was disallowed.

"In the first half we were not good. We played very slow, no intensity, no creativity and it was easy for Maribor to control the game and to reach what they want to reach which is a nil-nil. In the second half we played very well, but they scored. So when they scored the situation is a bit more difficult for us, but after that I think we played magnificent. We scored two goals, two very good goals, and the second goal the referee decided to disallow, but it's a clear goal. So normally we should win because we scored two goals, but we have to accept (that) and we have to praise the fantastic stadium with lots of enthusiasm where for the people it is a fantastic night" ~ Mourinho
Mourinho believe Maribor gave Chelsea a surprise by scoring the first goal in the match.
"You know the players are players and many, many times surprises happen when people are not fully...I don't think committed, committed is not the word but people are not fully focused, when people don't believe that the game can be a difficult one, and I think only when Maribor scored, the players they realised that the game was in danger. After that, fantastic reaction, everybody tried everything to win, (we) deserved to win clearly. But football is football." ~ Mourinho said
