Ruben Loftus-Cheek make his first appearance for Chelsea

18-year-old Chelsea academy graduate Ruben Loftus-Cheek made his first appearance he  has been at Chelsea since joining the club as an eight-year-old but make his senior Chelsea debut yesterday against Sporting Lisbon in the Uefa Champions League final group match.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said he was pleased with how serious his players approached their final UEFA Champions League group stage match against Sporting Lisbon in which they had nothing to play for.
After Wednesday's (December 10) 3-1 win over the Portuguese side, Mourinho had positive words for 18-year-old debutant Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

(On how debutant Ruben Loftus-Cheek played) "Very good personality. Very positive. Not afraid of playing, not afraid to have the ball. He wanted to participate, 10 minutes, but he wanted to do it. Obviously low levels of responsibility - we are qualified, the game is over, but he showed immediately the quality he has so I think everyone in the stadium got immediately the feeling we have a kid with talent. So keep going, keep working hard and hopefully people around him don't disturb the work we are doing with him." ~ Jose Mourinho

(Q: What were your instructions to him, what did you say to him before you sent him on?)
"I give you this, you have to give me a nice bottle of red wine. And he told me immediately, 'no problem, no problem'." said Mourinho

(On his team's performance) "A good attitude. The players were serious. The ones that were not playing a lot, they got a chance. The ones that were playing regular, they faced the game in the right way. We did what we had to do. We played seriously and we deserved to win I believe." Mourinho added
(On how is team played compared to Sporting) "I'm here speaking about Chelsea. I thought we were a strong side, we played very seriously. I kept four or five regular players in the team and the players who don't always play like (Andre) Schurrle, Petr Cech or Filipe Luis, they came in very well." ~ Jose said

(On if his players felt the pressure of playing such an important game against top opposition) "It could be. Since we didn't start the game very well, maybe the first fifteen minutes some of the players were a bit nervous. It was a big game. So the first 15 minutes we were not at a level we were expecting." ~ Jose said
